EKPHRASTIC POETRY COMPETITION
Our competition is for poems based on
any artwork (this can be broadly interpreted, so painting,
sculptures and many others such as photographs, pottery, street
art printart, leatherwork, carving, etching etc. if you consider
it an artwork then it is a valid artwork for this competition.). There are no style
or length restrictions, but it should be stressed that a short
poem is just as likely to be selected as a longer one.
1st prize is valued at £110
2nd prize is valued at £30

all entries must be received before
midnight Saturday 30th SEPTEMBER 2023
Entries received after this time will
be discarded. All entries are judged anonymously so please do
not put any identifying features on the poems.

James Bain
James is a spoken word and visual
artist, from Glasgow, now living in the North West of England.
In 2018 he was poet in residence at Formby Shore. His poetry
from this time is collected in "The New Bridge, a
collection of poems". He is currently working on a
new collection of poems based paintings in the The Tate Modern.
James says "I want to read poems that help me
to see a piece of art in a new way. I will be looking for
originality and insight. But it must also be good poetry."
Competition Rules
Poems, which must be in English, can be
on any subject and presented in any form or style .
There are no restrictions on content.
All poem must be the unpublished work
of the person entering them into the competition.
The actual given name of the entrant
must be given, even if the poem is to be published under a pen
name.
Poems should not have any indication
within them to allow for the identification of the poet.
There is no length or content
restrictions and a short poem is just as likely to win as a
longer one.
Poems must be entered by email to
comps@poetrykit.org the appropriate fee
is paid through PAY PAL in Pound Sterling (GB Pounds).
Please attach all entered poems in one
attachment using a standard Word file
Closing Date for all entries is
midnight on 30th SEPTEMBER 2023
Poems will not be accepted by post.
We cannot accept alterations to the
poem once it has been submitted.
Poems cannot be withdrawn from the
judging process once they have been entered.
In exceptional circumstances we reserve
the right to vary the prizes shown.
Although copyright will remain with the
poet, we reserve the right to publish any shortlisted poem on
our website.
The decision of the judges is final and
no correspondence will be entered into.
