Black Snake Motorway

 

Setting: This piece was written on the snowy evening of Saturday, 7^th February 2004, just before the writer saw the crash scene mentioned in The Gathering. It was shortened and revised in response to criticism on Friday, December 17^th 2004.

 

The black rain pours down

Sheeting, sheeting;

From a pitch black sky

 

The black rain pours down

Weeping, weeping;

For the havoc it will cause

 

The black rain pours down

Turning, turning;

 Into white flecks of blinding snow

 

The black rain pours down

Sleeting, sleeting;

Exploding into a myriad million water bombs

 

The black rain pours down

Running, running;

Over the ice patches forming on the death trap motorway

 

The black rain pours down

Performing, performing;

Death rattles on many a windscreen

 

The black rain pours down

Deluging, Deluging;

An already water logged moor land

 

The black rain pours down

Slowing, slowing;

To a crawl regimented lines of vehicles

 

The black rain pours down

Frustrating, frustrating;

Many a busy schedule

 

The black rain pours down

Washing, washing;
