Bird song, completed on 2nd of April 2020

BIRD SONG

These times are unprecedented, it’s like life’s hit pause, we’re all taking a backseat as Mother Nature takes centre stage greeted by applause, the clarity of the skies, the stillness of the cities, the hush of humanity, in its amplified capacity nature’s never sounded so pretty.

And I listen as the birds they sing, humanity please we’ve been here from the start and only since your arrival has this place looked so dark, you meant no harm and we know ignorance is bliss but please we’re speaking for all beings this can’t persist.

Baffled at my capacity to hear birds tongue, I look around at others, privileged to find for understanding I am the only one and as the planes are grounded, pilots lose their wings, the original aviators take back the skies, uncontested like Star Wars in flight they have the X Factor cause boy can they sing.

See we used to sleep so sweetly, dreaming nothing but joy but since you discovered fire the lights have been consistently on like a widowed mother for the kids we’ve had to stay strong, though here we draw a line and make a modest request to be sparing with the light, all we ask is you be considerate late at night.

What a melodic frequency as nature communicates, a sparrow to a mocking bird, humanity could borrow a feather even cross breads they are mates, sounds so refreshing, a breaks from the clunks and the clanks, a beautiful song, not another jail fatality, a carrot fashioned into a shank.

With pleading eyes they look at me, we know you are but one man but please do what you can, spread the word as we spread our wings, you have your voice and this is poetry and with this poetry of our message please sing.
