Day Case

Before the liquid

anaesthesia is administered

the cannula

feels like

an intruder,

or like the hole in my hand

is waiting for string

that will pull me

like a cosmic puppet.

After the deep sleep,

the cannula ─ its plastic pipe,

now feels a part of me.

A part of me that can be

opened and shut with a lid.
