THIS RAVEN

This raven arrowing its self straight home,

high over these silent suburbs,

this raven dropping deep croaks

like bombs onto the shielding houses,

this raven drawing its shadow at random

across gardens and pavements,

this raven is no symbol of anything,

is not metaphor, nor character from myth.

Today it’s just this raven, and now it’s flying

upside down, as if for simple fun.
