A Different Shade Of Autumn

Morning: dark clouds frown

over a slate-grey world.

A storm rises, snapping

branches, sucking leaves

into its dismal squall.

Mid-Afternoon: sunlight gilds the trees

with gold, their shadows silhouetting

walls and fences. In hedges,

sparrows forage;

on lawns, the leaves curl

a different shade

of Autumn.
